A bi-annual newsletter used to engage donors and friends by launching new initiatives, highlighting volunteers, clients, and donors, and presenting opportunities for engagement.
Making a bi-annual newsletter feel fresh, interesting to look at, and engaging to read. Messaging newsy articles to convey abundance, gratitude, and enthusiasm for the work.
Open Arms Volunteer, Zion Wu, created the original template in 2007. I used it to create a cheerful, 12-page, 4-color spread that combined brand elements and photographs of volunteers and donors for a lively, current feel. Our communications director wrote the copy in a journalistic style, so people enjoyed reading it — our readers lovingly referred to it as a magazine. In 2013, the newsletter won a national Graphic Design USA award.
