The last dollars are always the hardest to raise in a capital campaign, but not if Kelly McManus is part of your creative team. At Open Arms of Minnesota, Kelly reshaped a basic concept – the selling of commemorative tiles – and developed a dynamic and fun campaign that raised over $800,000 in capital gifts, primarily from individuals. The added value was that Kelly personalized an $8.1 million campaign, which resulted in hundreds of donors deepening their connections to Open Arms. — Kevin Winge, Former Executive Director, Open Arms of MN
Create an donation campaign that would allow the Open Arms of Minnesota community to participate in the final construction and fundraising for the non-profit’s new building.
Raise the remaining $1 million of the overall $8.1 million capital campaign. Create a product that would not only inspire sponsorship and community, but also fit into the overall feeling of the building’s finishes.
Collaborated with leadership staff and volunteers to develop three select areas in the new building where glass tiles would be sold at three funding levels, including $5K, $1K and $500. The two lower levels were sourced glass tiles, back-painted in the building colors, then sandblasted by Blasted Art Ink with the icons and names. The $5K tiles were made with plexiglass and painted board to create a 3-dimensional effect. We launched the tile campaign at Moveable Feast with personalized tile flyers, where we sold $200K in tiles. Over the course of 8 months, through personal asks and direct mailings, we raised $800K to finish off our capital campaign – one month early. Today, tiles are still being sold and installed.
